Corvinhos

In the small village of Aldeia de Espiga, the most prominent family is the Família do Covinho. It is unknown as to when the family established roots in the village, but records show that the Corvinho family has been present in Espiga for at least a dozen generations. For most of that time, the family was unremarkable, living as most of the inhabitants of the village did - working as poor subsistence farmers.

The family's fortune changed under the direction of Gustavo Corvinho, who miraculously managed to pull the family out of a life of meager servitude to a wealthy family of influence. While he claimed this was achieved through hard work and savvy business deals, no one is entirely sure how he managed to climb to the top of the social ladder with such speed.

Gustavo Corvinho

Born in AC'117 to a family working a small plot, Gustavo longed for more - not just in material wealth, but for the village of Espiga. At the time, Espiga was a forsaken rural stretch of land owned and neglected by the Lord of the Land, and all the farmers paid a majority of their harvest to Scathanna for the privilege of working there.

When Gustavo's parents died, he used his small inheritance to leverage a lease on the Espiga granary, which had fallen into disrepair. Once operational, he worked on establishing trade with nearby villages like Aldeia de Raiz and Folgosinho to both provide and process flour, vegetables and, later, meat. His aptitude for business was again demonstrated when he constructed the Cabeca do Corvo, an inn and tavern that became incredibly popular with both the locals and visiting traders.

His wealth and influence grew at a supernatural pace; even eventually brokering a release of the land from the royal holdings, parceling out small plots to the area farmers while keeping a vast majority of the land for himself. As such, Gustavo essentially positioned himself as an unofficial leader. Though he retained a tight grip on his empire, he was also beloved by the people of his community.

Gustavo vanished abruptly one evening. Having failed to return from his office in the tavern, most assumed he was either murdered by brigands from The Outlands, or attacked by one of the bloodthirsty beasts. Despite this theory, no trace of him was ever found in the woodlands, which were thoroughly searched. Though he is presumed dead, it has never been confirmed and locals occasionally report sightings, which are typically dismissed by those who listen.

Though guarded by his wife after his disappearance, his life's journal would serve to out Gustavo as the High Priest of The Mycelial Thread, Nebuchadrezzar - the evil sorcerer who sought nothing more than the utter destruction of the village of Espiga for his own lust for power.

Claudia Corvinho

Claudia is the heiress of the Corvinho estate and fortune, making her the wealthiest and most influential person in the small community of Aldeia de Espiga. As the only child, she inherited her father, Pedro's, modest fortune when he died. She wears her privilege on her face and delights in the lifestyle to which she is accustomed, looking down her nose at the laborers of Espiga.

Her status in the village made her the perfect consort for Gustavo, who, though young, had already established himself as the most successful man in the village. The two arranged to be wed before they had spent any considerable time together, but in spite of the superficial relationship, by all accounts they had a happy home life and gave birth to three children together.

Since the death of her husband, she has struggled to manage the estate and much of the lucrative businesses have begun to fall apart. Having since burned through most of the family fortune, Claudia is faced with an unenviable task of holding her deceased husband's empire together as it rapid slips through her fingers.

She entrusted the management of the windmill and granary to her oldest child, Graça Corvinho, though she shows no aptitude for business management, and, as such, it has ceased to be profitable. Meanwhile her youngest child, and heir to the estate, Tristan, manages the Cabeca de Corvo, the village inn, but seems to give more away than he charges for - causing it to hemorrhage money rather than to make it.

The only child who shows any skill at managing the estate is Rosa, the middle child, who handles the crops and livestock - a job unbefitting of a child of wealth. Yet Claudia allows her to take the position because it is the only functional aspect of the estate.

Graça Corvinho

The oldest of the three Corvinho children, Graça Corvinho was born "touched by the hand of madness", as the locals say. In her youth she often tortured and killed small animals for amusement and, once her sister Rosa was born, began enacting those cruelties on her sister.

Though she was known to be cruel and unstable, her father Gustavo doted upon the girl, and his love served as a shield to the hateful thoughts of the others in Espiga. He routinely promised her that she will carry the village into a new age some day, and that she was destined for something big.

After Gustavo vanished, the inhabitants of the village turned on Graça, especially as the town began to slowly fall into ruin. This tension was multiplied when Claudia put Graça in charge of the Espiga Granary, which employed a great number of the villagers. Her cruelty came back in full force as she used the mill as an outlet to torture the employees, who she held great disdain for.

Graça was also the first to confess her sins to Pica Pau, the ancient albino Kenku that has inhabited Espiga for generations. Both through proselytizing and through forcing her employees to follow suit, she quickly shared the ecstasy with the others in the village. She has styled herself as a priestess of the white bird, laughing as she watches the town fall to ruin.

Rosa Corvinho

Of the three children, Rosa is the most independent - raised with a resentment of the entitled attitudes of her family. The abuse she suffered from her sister's cruelty also served to push her further away.

As such, Rosa spent most of her childhood alone, or learning crafts from the elders in the village. These skills would come to be very useful after the disappearance of her father. Rosa was entrusted with the management of the family's lands and tenant farmers. This was the first time in her life she carried herself with pride, often working the fields alongside those employed by the Corvinhos.

After the blight arrived, Rosa worked extra hard to protect the lands of the local farmers, but her efforts didn't amount to much - Rosa was one of the first to disappear when villagers began to vanish. Rumors began to circulate that Rosa had seen the writing on the wall and abandoned the village to greener pastures. Such rumors likely originated with her sister Graça.

Rosa was found sacrificed in a ritual performed by The Mycelial Thread under the family's tavern. From her body crawled a hideous bird demon and a flock of crows composed of rotting flesh and sinew. Her blood had distilled into a bright potion through an alchemical process; it's effect and purpose remain unknown.

Tristan Corvinho

An enterprising young man with no aptitude for agricultural work, Tristan instead opted to run the family inn, Cabeca de Corvo in Aldeia de Espiga. As the youngest child of affluent family, and the only male heir, Tristan has lived a comfortable life of luxury - a deep contrast to the rest of the inhabitants of the small village.

Despite this, he is generally adored for his kindness and generosity; the latter of which makes him a poor businessman. His ledgers keep running open tabs for the villagers that he knows will never be paid - his mother who owns the inn is always lecturing him about the importance of income.

Even though he has a comfortable life, he dreams of someday escaping the small village and exploring the realm; finding a place where he isn't chained to the legacy of his family. The only thing stopping him from leaving is his sister, Graça, who he fears will suffer abuse from the locals if she is left unprotected.

Tristan disappeared from the tavern in a similar fashion to his departed father. He is assumed to have been abducted by The Emissaries of the Thread who sequestered him in an inaccessible chamber behind the subterranean temple.
