Pica Pau

Pica|350
Night Crow of Espiga

For longer than anyone can remember, the fields of Espiga have been visited by a strange white Kenku known colloquially as Pica Pau. This mythical visitor fills the night sky with song, as it hums along with its rhythmic strumming on the old Guitara it carries.

Though Pica had long existed as an uneasy mystery in the rural village, he had come to be more than accepted, but beloved. During harvest time, Pica would often spend the night gathering crops for farmers lacking the help they needed; he would also assist by mending fences, seeding fields and guiding lost livestock back to their pens.

Corruption

During the day, Pica tended to nest on the hill at the foot of the statue of Nespera; a popular spot for worshipers and pilgrims that follow the old ways. It was here that Pica heard his first confession from the eldest daughter of the Família do Corvinho, Graça Corvinho. Finding that unloading her burdens on the shoulders of the bird made her feel reborn, she quickly ushered many of the other villagers to the hill to confess as well.

It was shortly thereafter that the crops began to succumb to a strange blight that turned the corn into a toxic thorny weed. Perhaps it was this blight driving villagers away unceremoniously, and perhaps it was the blight that filled the trees with disgusting crows, but it all became a maelstrom of darkness over the village.

Pica was raised up as a savior of sin, with Graça donning the robes as his priestess. He has not been seen since she appointed herself to this position.
